Abstract: Different studies conducted, regarding the development of statistical models used to predict crash occurrences along two-lane rural highways, around the globe and particularly in Ethiopia, rely on geometric characteristics than explicitly considering measures of design consistencies. Recently, the issue of geometric design consistency in highway design is emerging as an important criterion. This study is therefore carried out to evaluate the design consistency on horizontal alignments using measures of design consistency and develop safety functions that exclusively include design consistency measures. Elements of all road sections considered in the study were rated as good, fair or poor design using design evaluation criteria. Poisson regression and Negative Binomial regression modeling approaches were used to assess the relationship between measures of design consistency and road safety. Using information criteria goodness-of-fit, Poisson regression model was found better fit to the data than NB regression models. Three different crash prediction models which explicitly incorporate design consistency measures were successfully developed. The models can be used to predict crashes of two-lane rural highway having similar characteristics with the road considered under this study. Finally, based on the results of this research, further detailed study on effect of highway design consistency on road safety and current design guides related to design speed selection to account for design consistency revision was recommended.

Abstract: In developing country like Bangladesh, service quality improvement in public transportation is essential. That is why; we need strategic planning & adopting a quality management system for improving it. From the bus passengers viewpoints the public bus performance evaluate here. This paper deals with the quality improvement of the public transport system with take into consideration of the principal variables that dominance the perceived quality by users. Investigate factors that are affecting passengers perceived bus performance through an Ordered Probit Model (OPM). Take advantage of the Ordered Probt Model, data is analysed based on 297 samples raised from visibility survey with bus passengers during service testing period in Pabna to Dhaka route. The results of the study indicate that 79.79% of the respondents were male; 39.70% were aged between 20-29 years, 45.10% respondent indicated level of service as good; 50.50% respondent indicated level of service as moderate; and only 1% respondent indicated level of service of transit bus as bad. The Model (OPM) represent the quality appraisement process founded on a group of predefined variables. These variables choice is essential since they are used to explain the selection process to be modeled. In addition, the results revealed that punctuality & reliability, Seat comfort, noise level, physical appearance, frequency of bus service, seat availability and female harassment have a significant relationship with passengers satisfaction because they have a P-value smaller than α = 0.10 as the significant level is at 10% and Z-value is greater than 1.64. Attempts to improve on service quality to influence passenger’s satisfaction should be directed at those variables. The administration of Pabna city will be benefited from this strategies result consist of useful information to ensure the sustainability of the public transport system.

Abstract: Shanghai is one of the busiest port in the world. With the continuous increase of traffic flow in Shanghai Port, the complexity of navigable environment and conditions is also increased, which undoubtedly increases the difficulty of ship navigation and directly affects the safety of ship pilotage. The mental health and good psychological quality of pilots are the important premise to ensure the safety of ship navigation. To ensure the safe navigation of ships in Shanghai port, it is very important to study the psychological state and pressure sources of pilots when they are engaged in the piloting work and put forward the measures to relieve the psychological pressure of pilots according to the actual situation. The paper focuses on explaining the current mental health status of pilots in Shanghai port, and analyzes the related factors that affect pilot's psychology, so as to find out the psychological pressure source of pilots and the influence of psychological factors on work performance. Through the analysis, combing with the current actual situation of Shanghai port, and understanding the current intervention measures at home and abroad, the author puts forward corresponding measures, according to the problems and factors that affect the psychological quality of pilots, and also hopes that the mental health status of pilots in Shanghai Port can be fundamentally improved, and lays a solid foundation for the safety of ship navigation.
